The Department of State is drafting proposed regulations pertaining to foreign language advertisements placed by notaries public. To comment on the draft regulation (pdf), please contact Whitney A. Clark, Associate Attorney, NYS Department of State, Office of Counsel, One Commerce Plaza, 99 Washington Avenue, Albany NY 12231.

Assembly Bill 09080 - sponsored by Assembly woman Joan Millman, referred to the Senate Finance Committee January 9, 2009 - would raise the fee a notary can charge from $2.00 to $5.00.

Assembly Bill 09475 - sponsored by Assemblyman Carl Heastie - would require notaries to keep, maintain and protect a journal of notarial acts.

Assembly Bill 03355 - sponsored by Assemblyman Peter Abbate Jr., referred to the Judiciary Committee on January 9, 2009 - would exempt "court clerks" from paying the $60 notary appointment application fee.
